Why did you decide to buy EeePC?

We are from Taiwan, we know Asus has high reputation in lap top and other products.  And Eee PC is a wonderful item from Asus. We need to use these lap tops in school for our students, with the limited budget to acquire as many lap tops as possible, the net book is our first choice. We need to use the lap tops for 3 difference classes, the whole afternoon (3 hours), so, the long battery capacity of Eee PC is a perfect feature.

How many EeePC’s did you buy?

We’ve bought 20 Eee PC altogether, 14 pcs for our students.  3 pcs are for the teachers (private use) and I also bought 3 pcs for our company use.

How do you use EeePC at school?  

We set up 1 Eee PC in the classroom for teachers, with projector and audio.  And 11 Eee PC for students.  3 different classes toshare the time in school.  About 40 some students. With the Chinese teaching software, students practice pronunciation and typing of Chinese.

Do the EeePC stay at school or students bring it with them back home?

We are only a weekend school, we rent a regular Dutch basis school every Saturday afternoon. So, we bring the Eee PC back home and charge it for the next use.  Certain teacher to keep these Eee PC’s, as it’s a property of the school.

What is the benefit of using EeePC at school?  Does EeePC help you for lessons giving?

•Inexpensive. (of course we got special support from ASUS for better price). •Small and easy to carry and use.   •A total package,  Classroom equipped with project and audio, Eee PC, and the teaching software.  I think lack of one, we cannot start the class.  Yes, the Eee PC is helpful for our teaching.

What are the reaction from the students and parents?

Students are excited to have this computer teaching lesson. They love it, however one of the 3 classes has 20 some students, so, they have to share the Eee PC.  We just started to add in this computer teaching lesson since February, still in the experimental stage.  We plan to introduce to the parents end of this month. Our idea is introduce the software to parents first, and then also to introduce the Eee PC to them, it will be a good tool for their children to use at home.We also have 2 adult classes, their teachers also like to use the Eee PC to do some teaching.  We will start a bit later, then to share with other students.

Do you plan to buy more EeePC’s?

Yes, we do have plan to buy more for our school use, but, it subject to the future budget if we will get from the Taiwanese Governmental organization (OCAC, 僑委會). Some parents who saw our computer teaching lessons already, who’s showed interest.  I think we can make a survey with our parents, and to check how many of them like to buy Eee PC for their children, then maybe we can ask Asus again for a group purchase?   Subject to if Asus will support our students and parents with special price.  I think I will make this survey later.

What are the ages of the students there?

Our students in children classes are from 4 to 18 years old.  Also 2 classes of adult students.  Most of them are parents of our students. The students who used the Eee PC are from 6 years to 10 or 12 years. Their mother tongue are Dutch or Cantonese, not Mandarin.

Do you use Windows XP and Windows Live?   If so, why did you buy Windows Xp instead of Linux EeePC?

We use Windows XP.  The interface is more familiar to us.   

Why did you decide to use EeePC?

Ik heb een verklaring voor mijn handschrift dat deze te traag en te slecht leesbaar is. Hierdoor mag ik mijn aantekeningen en mijn huiswerkopdrachten op de computer maken. De eeePC was eigenlijk de eerste kleine laptop. Hij is zeer licht en dat is handig omdat ik veel zware schoolboeken bij me heb. Hij is compact, normale laptops passen simpelweg niet in mijn tas.

Ik gebruik de EeePC op school voor aantekeningen en opdrachten.

What kind of benefits do you get from using EeePC?

Op school heb ik snel de aantekeningen van het schoolbord overgeschreven en ik kan het nog terug lezen ook. 

After you bring your EeePC to school, what are the feedbacks from your classmates and your teachers? 

De leraren zijn er helemaal enthousiast over. Ook zij vinden het raar dat alles nog in werkboeken gedaan wordt. Het lijkt hun het best als iedereen op een EEE zou werken.

Do your classmates also buy EeePC after they seeing that you are using EeePC? 

Een klasgenoot zat te twijfelen of hij er een zou kopen, nadat hij die van mij gezien had was ste leerlingen geen laptop in de klas.

Do your teachers have some positive feedback about using EeePC ? Does your school use many digital les materials?

Onze school is niet bijzonder vooruitstrevend. ze beginnen er nu zo langzamerhand over na te denken.

Does EeePC changes anything for your studying and social life?

Op mijn school resultaten heeft de EeePC een positieve invloed, ik maak met meer plezier en beter mijn huiswerk en ook nog eens veel sneller. We hebben helaas geen draadloos internet op school dus chatten tijdens de lessen zit er niet in.

When do you bring EeePC with you ( besides going to school )? For example go traveling or go out with your friends.

Op vakantie heb ik de EeePC meegenomen, in de auto heb ik toen films gekeken op de hotelkamer kon ik lekker internetten en mail lezen. Ook hadden we een keer een open dag op een universiteit.
